Applications are invited for an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) in the Centre for Digital Entertainment (CDE), a collaboration between the University of Bath and Bournemouth University, with Microsoft Research, Cambridge.
This 4 year studentship, fully funded by the EPSRC, offers the opportunity to conduct research in an industrial context.
Project
Many exciting areas of applied research around augmented reality, gaming and novel display technologies. Scope to work with MS technologies such as Kinect and Surface, but with an aim to develop some entirely new technologies too. A passion for technology is a must. Company
The Sensors and Devices Group at Microsoft Research Cambridge is part of the Computer-Mediated Living research area and works with technologies such as sensors, flexible electronics, novel displays, wireless communications, ubiquitous and mobile devices. We collaborate closely with researchers from other disciplines with the goal of understanding how advances in technology will impact traditional computing and the ways in which people use and interact with computing devices.
CDE
The Centre for Digital Entertainment (CDE) is a new collaboration between the University of Bath, Bournemouth University and a host of industry partners across the computer animation, games and visual effects industries. The CDE has been awarded £6.3 Million initial funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
The CDE will focus on providing research-level skills as well as technical and management expertise to people heading into the specialist industries of computer animation, games, visual effects, visualisation and simulation.

Package
If successful you will receive a generous package which pays your tuition fees and provides a tax free annual stipend of £15,090. There is also dedicated funding for resources and conference attendance.
